The Yoga practised is HATHA-YOGA meaning physical Yoga. Yoga is a Sanskrit word meaning YOKE - `unity of mind and body. Yoga combines exercises (called asanas) with breathing and concentrates on holding the posture as long as possible. Yoga is stretching the body and so improving flexibility. Physically it promotes concentration, balance and relaxation, all so important as we grow older. Yoga can be as dynamic or as gentle as you wish to do it: it is not competitive; you put into it as much as or as little as you want to. The benefits gained from practising Yoga over the last seven years can be substantiated by the present class members, who are a friendly group who all try to help each other.

This is a course for people who are interested in improving the whole condition of the body. This includes firming and toning up muscles, regulating digestive processes, stimulating circulation of the blood, limbering-up of joints and spine, and thoroughly purifying the system. Yoga’s true message often has its most profound effect on people in their Third Generation. Who are often more patient, more disposed to listen and usually life has taught them a true sense of values. It is better to start with a mature, receptive mind and stiff joints, than supple limbs and a shallow, undeveloped mentality, for joints will soon loosen up, but the mind that is not ready may stay closed for years. No one is too old for Yoga! During this course a lot of emphasis will be put on how to relax body and mind. The exercises will be easy but effective and some can also be done sitting on a chair. Clothing: comfortable, warm clothing, a blanket, mat or towel to lie on.
