Cards for Fun

Mondays: 12:50pm to 3:00pm

We are an informal class which gives Poole U3A members the opportunity to play cards while meeting other members. This is not a teaching class so you will need to know a few basics about the game you wish to play and have other class members wanting to play the same game. It is expected that Chicago Bridge will be among the cards games played while others might include Rummy, Whist or Canasta. Joining the class is a very good way for players who have attended Poole U3A’s bridge teaching classes to consolidate what they have already learned and perhaps add to their knowledge. It is not necessary to come with a partner but it would be very useful to know of other class members that wish to play the same card game as you. We meet in the Coffee Lounge of Broadstone Methodist Church.

For more information, please contact Dot Brant on 698204 or [email protected].

Bridge Club - Chicago
Thursdays: 10:00am to 12:15pm

This activity provides a friendly environment for those who have mastered the basics of contract bridge, and wish to play with fellow third-agers of a similar standard. The sessions are geared to providing 2¼ hours playing Chicago bridge (a modified, more relaxed form of rubber bridge) with a break for tea or coffee and biscuit.

Please phone Rita Mullins on 510070 if you need help in finding a partner, or would like more details of this session.

Bridge Club - Duplicate
Thursdays: 12:55pm to 3:55pm

This is the only Duplicate Bridge Club offered by Poole U3A. Duplicate is a natural progression for players familiar with Chicago: the play and the scoring are the same. How many times have you heard players say “Of course we did badly, we had rotten cards!”  Well, in Duplicate Bridge you get just as bad, or good, cards as everyone else. The method of play, and the progression from one set of opponents to the next, guarantees that you play exactly the same cards (against different opponents) as every other pair. The winners are the pair(s) that get the highest score. This makes the game an exciting challenge, where every extra trick counts.

Please phone Mandy Shanahan on 07794 106533 for more details of this session.

Bridge - Intermediate
Tuesdays: 9:15am to 11:45am (NB Starting Jan 2022)

New members are most welcome to our friendly Chicago Bridge sessions. You will need a partner. If you need one I will try to find one for you. As long as you play the ACOL system don't worry if you are a little rusty. I am happy to advise ways to improve in your own time as advice is not given during class time.

Please contact Nick Monk on 761780 for more details of this session.
